One thing is clear for the Vancouver Canucks heading into the 2024-2025 NHL offseason is that they need to find a suitable replacement for Brock Boeser, but they just got some unfortunate news about their top free-agent target.
Since the Vancouver Canucks missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the rumor mill and buzz around what general manager Patrik Allvin and President of Hockey Operation Jim Rutherford are planning to do has been going pretty wild.
Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman gives an unfortunate reality check to the fanbase
One name that is seen as a real possibility at filling that hole is Winnipeg Jets star Nikolaj Ehlers, who has proven to be a consistent 20+ a year goal scorer for the past decade.
All the pieces made sense for him to be a realistic target for Vancouver this offseason, but Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Jannik Hansen has something to say about it.
When asked on Sportsnet 650 if Ehlers would ever consider signing with the Canucks as a free-agent, he bluntly said no, saying he would choose a vast majority of other teams first.
Would Nikolaj Ehlers come to Vancouver? «Do I think he would come here? No.» – Jannik Hansen
He continued saying that he would choose Montreal over Vancouver any day of the week and that he loves the pressure playing in Canada, but would choose other Canadians Markets over going back out West.
At the end of the day, all of this is just speculation anyway and Jannik Hansen has a tendency to be pretty pessimistic when it comes to anything Vancouver Canucks related.
