When it was all said and done in the wild Game 2 showdown in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Ottawa Senators and the Carolina Hurricanes, it was the home team that came away with the victory.
The Hurricanes ended the marathon Game 2 at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a Jordan Martinook goal in the second overtime to get Carolina the 3-2 win and a commanding 2-0 series lead. Martinook’s goal ended a game that will be talked about for some time.
Carolina thought it had won the game in the first overtime when Mark Jankowski found the back of the net, but that goal was waived off following an offside review. Martinook had a chance to win the game in the first overtime with a rare NHL playoffs penalty shot, but he was stopped by Senators goalie Linus Ullmark, as the game continued.
Martinook, however, still ended up as the Hurricanes’ Game 2 hero with his goal in the second overtime.
