The Columbus Blue Jackets are entering the offseason with multiple pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs). Captain Boone Jenner is among them, and the Blue Jackets have a big decision to make when it comes to the veteran forward.
Given Jenner’s high importance to the club, it would not be shocking if the Blue Jackets worked hard to extend him. The veteran forward is the team’s top leader, and it would make sense if they kept him around as they look to take that next step.

However, if Jenner ends up looking for a notable raise on his next deal, it is fair to wonder if the Blue Jackets could head in a different direction. This is especially so when noting that the Blue Jackets have other notable pending UFAs, like Charlie Coyle and Mason Marchment, who they must make decisions about, too.
Yet, if Jenner is willing to take a bit of a hometown discount to stay in Columbus, the Blue Jackets should look to re-sign him. The 13-year veteran is still a solid forward at this stage in his career, as evidenced by his 13 goals, 38 points, and 147 hits in 67 games this season.
Nevertheless, it will be fascinating to see what happens with Jenner this offseason from here.
