The Northeastern men’s hockey team announced its new captains in a press release April 19. Junior forward Andy Moore and senior defenseman Joaquim Lemay will both wear the “C” as co-captains, while sophomore forward Joe Connor, junior forward Eli Sebastian and freshman forward Jacob Mathieu will be alternates.
“Our leadership will be one of our biggest strengths heading into the 2026-27 season,” said head coach Jerry Keefe in the press release. “Our captains are culture drivers. They are a hungry group, a driven group and a team first group of leaders. We are excited to see them lead our team every day both on and off the ice.”
Lemay and Moore both wore the “A” this past season under senior defenseman and captain Vinny Borgesi. According to an X post by the Northeastern Hockey Blog, their dual captaincy will be the first since the 2014-15 season.
Lemay will be returning to the Husky uniform for his third season, after transferring from Nebraska Omaha following his sophomore season. The Sainte-Pierre-les-Becquets, Quebec, native only played in nine games this season before being sidelined due to an injury. In the Husky sweater, the defenseman has played in 39 games, where he’s scored three goals as well as notching 10 assists and 54 blocks.
Moore has been a Husky since freshman year and has played in 104 games. The Cumberland, Maine, native has notched 42 blocks, netted three goals and collected six assists across his three seasons with the Huskies.
Sebastian has been on the team for three years, earning play time in 101 games, where he collected four goals, six assists and 74 blocks. This past season, the Burlington, Ontario native was fifth on the team in blocks with 37.
Connor, who hails from Nottingham, N.H., tied for the second-most goals on the team behind junior forward Dylan Hryckowian, who signed with the Dallas Stars in March. In his two seasons, the forward hit the ice 73 times, netting 20 goals and collecting 24 assists. His freshman year performance earned him Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors March 24, 2025.
Mathieu immediately made an impact as a freshman, earning him the “A” in his second year. The St-Odilon, Quebec native scored 10 goals, the fourth-most on the team, and 20 assists, the second-most on the team. He also blocked 50 shots, the third-most on the team and the highest blocks by a forward.
