April is proving to be a delightful month for the family of Detroit Red Wings prospect Noah Dower Nilsson.
It started when center Dower Nilsson, who turns 21 today, signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Red Wings. Selected 73rd overall by Detroit in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Dower Nilsson posted career-high 6-10-16 totals for Frolunda of the SHL, helping the club win the European Champions League title.
The good fortune for the Dower Nilssons continued this week. Liam Dower Nilsson, Noah’s older brother, played a leading role in helping Björkloven IF gain promotion from Hockey Allsvenskan, Sweden’s second division, to the top-flight SHL.
The elder Dower Nilsson finished second in the Hockey Allsvenskan scoring race with 26-31-57 totals. It’s his second successive 20-goal campaign. He added seven playoff points as Björkloven won the second division title.
“It’s been an extremely fun season with the guys,” Liam Dower Nilsson told Swedish website Aftonbladet. “We’ve played such extremely good hockey.
“That’s the only thing I want to talk about. We’re the ones who won, and it’s so damn nice.”
Former Red Wings Prospect Wears Tribute To Mother
Liam Dower Nilsson, 23, was also a Red Wings draftee. He was chosen 134th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, but the Red Wings never tendered him a contract offer.

Throughout his pro hockey career, Liam Dower Nilsson has worn a tribute to his mother on the ice in every game. He wears a chain around his neck with his mother’s favorite ring attached.
“I carry it with me all the time,” Liam said.
Bodil Dower Nilsson was diagnosed with cancer when Liam was four and Noah two years old. She fought off the disease six times, but the seventh time, cancer claimed her life. Liam was 14 at the time, and Noah was 12.
“The way she raised me was to really understand that tomorrow something could happen and to take advantage of every day as if it were the last,” Liam said. “To be aware of what you do, what the consequences are, how to behave around others, and to be as a person.
“That’s something she taught us in an extremely large amount. I think she is extremely proud. I know she is.”
