The latest in New York Rangers news could surprise us all. What the team has sold as a retool could quickly turn into a rebuild should GM Chris Drury fulfill what he’s stated in the media: Everything is on the table including Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin.

What GM Chris Drury originally sold to us as a retool has evolved into a situation that is a rebuild.

Drury even toyed around with putting feelers out there for a trade for Chris Kreider during the season, only to fail due to injury.

Veteran forward Chris Kreider was one of the names included in Drury’s trade memo to all 31 NHL general managers. When asked about it, Kreider said he wasn’t surprised.

«That wasn’t the first time. Won’t be the last time. That kind of stuff comes out,» he said. «That’s part of professional sports.»

But Elliotte Friedman reports that Drury has put all his cards out on the table, and will begin the process of moving anyone if the price is right, it sounds like.

Which means Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, and even Alexis Lafreniere could be some of the players moved in July.

The New York Rangers failed to meet the expectations of the fans, the front office, and Peter Laviolette. The dismantling of the Rangers began in December, has culminated in what could turn out to be another five years of the team outside of the playoffs.

Win-now? It sounds like it could be no more.

It’s quite puzzling given how depleted the Rangers’ prospect pool is, but Drury is a bold GM and has no issues trading or waiving anyone, as we’ve seen with Barclay Goodrow in the past.
