Martin Necas scored just 2:51 into the game when he fought off a pair of defenders and lifted a backhand to beat Gustavsson to give Colorado an early lead. However, Minnesota quickly responded back. In fact, it took just six seconds, when Kirill Kaprizov ripped a wrister by Wedgewood to tie it.

As we approached the six-minute mark of the period, Devon Toews ripped a one-timer from the point off a slick pass from Nathan MacKinnon, but Gustavsson made the save. However, there was some brief confusion as Gustavsson wasn’t aware the puck was underneath of him prior to the referee blowing the whistle.
A few minutes later, Minnesota forward Yakov Trenin went to the box for high-sticking Nic Roy. And it took just 15 seconds for the Avalanche to score on the power play when Nathan MacKinnon set up Gabe Landeskog for a blistering one-timer from the doorstep to give Colorado a 2-1 lead.
