OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX5/KUSI) — Frontwave Arena is home to the San Diego Sockers, the San Diego Strikeforce, the San Diego Clippers, and now hockey is joining the mix.
The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) is bringing a new team to San Diego, with Oceanside set as its home when play begins in October, coinciding with the arena’s installation of permanent ice.
The FPHL is entering its 17th season and is an independent league made up of Single‑A minor league teams. The new San Diego franchise will be owned by Sockers owner Phil Salvaggio, who is also a co-owner of Frontwave Arena.
The season runs from October through May, ending with a best‑of‑five Commissioner’s Cup championship.
