Smith is projected to be a top 10-15 2025 NHL Draft pick per various outlets, and totaled 54 points, 43 assist and 11 goals last season in the WHL for the Tri-City Americans. He was teammates with fellow future Nittany Lion center Levi Katzin on Team Canada at the 2025 U18 World Juniors.

He is a 5-star prospect per Puck Preps and adds to a stellar offseason so far for Penn State’s blue line, as the program also added Hobey Baker Award finalist in defenseman Mac Gadowsky from Army.
