New York Rangers reporter reveals star forward J.T. Miller is set to take on massive role next seaso

The Hockey News Rangers writer Remy Mastey did who will become the next captain of the New York Rangers which happens to be JT Miller.

Miller, who was drafted by the Rangers returned to the team after playing for the Vancouver Canucks who was mired in turmoil which led to a trade back to the Big Apple.

Miller would improve the hockey culture for the Rangers

Despite several players being considered as choice for captain including Vincent Trocheck, Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad, Mastey feels that Miller would change the culture of the Rangers for the better and give the team a new look in leadership.Miller is the kind of player and person who’s known for his aggressive mindset and competitive mentality.

Miller brings a fiery brand of hockey to whichever organization he plays for and has a high demand on his teammates which can be intimidating for some players.

It’s been well documented that general manager Chris Drury wants to change the culture of the Rangers to be a tougher team to play against and a meaner style which has been the pedigree and ingredients for winning the Stanley Cup over the last number of years.

Rangers will be busy this offseason

Naming the captain is one among many things the Rangers have on their To Do List as the NHL draft looms at the end of June and NHL free agency on July 1st.

The team has many ideas to help improve its situation as it looks to get back into the playoffs next season and hopefully compete for a Stanley Cup soon.

With new head coach Mike Sullivan at the helm, the team will look different on the ice, but Drury will need to make his changes which remains uncertain on what he will do and how far he will go.

The NHL draft is set for June 27th and NHL free agency will begin on July 1st at 12:00 PM eastern.
