A very unfortunate situation was indeed reported following the first matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and the Sabres live from Buffalo.
It was the excellent Cédrik Séguin of HFTV who experienced an unacceptable situation in Buffalo during the game between the Canadiens and the Sabres.
Cédrik was there with his cameraman to capture fans’ reactions outside the arena, but unfortunately, the evening did not go as planned for the two Montrealers.
The guys at HFTV usually take advantage of the playoffs to create original content (even more than usual).
On Wednesday, Alex Rougas was in Montreal with the fans.
Cédrik, meanwhile, chose Buffalo to experience the atmosphere directly on site.
Buffalo is known as a city where fans are passionate and where the playoff atmosphere is unique.
But unfortunately, the experience took a turn after the game.
“Cédrik Séguin of HFTV experienced an unfortunate incident in Buffalo on Wednesday night.”
While filming his content as usual, a local fan came after him from behind.
Cédrik could not see the incident coming.
The cameraman accompanying him was also targeted during the event.
Cédrik Séguin responds to Buffalo incident while defending the majority of Sabres fans
Despite everything that happened, Cédrik himself wanted to put things into perspective.
In his statement, he clearly separated the isolated incident he experienced from the general mentality of Buffalo fans.”There’s a big difference between the passion of Sabres fans, which is intense, and this event, which was isolated and contrary to the mentality of most people in Buffalo…
What I do hope for – from both sides – is that we hold each other to a higher standard. When Sabres fans have visited the Bell Centre, we have always gone out of our way to welcome them, protect them, and celebrate the shared love of hockey with them. That’s the culture we’re proud of, and it’s the culture we’d love to experience in return.”
– Cédrik Séguin
That’s exactly the right approach under the circumstances.
Most Buffalo fans are known for their hospitality, even toward supporters of other teams.
Several friendly interactions took place throughout the evening before the situation escalated.
It’s an important distinction to make to avoid falling into generalizations.
What happened to Cédrik and his cameraman should never happen to anyone, that said, and it’s easy to understand why the story is generating so much discussion.
The HFTV team has always been recognized for its authentic and unique content.
Hopefully this isolated incident will not discourage the guys from continuing their excellent work during the playoffs.
