The Edmonton Oilers and LA Kings will battle Tuesday in Game 5 of their best-of-7 Western Conference NHL Playoffs first-round series. The opening puck drop at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles will be at 10 p.m. ET (Max/TBS). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Oilers vs. Kings odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 2-2

Edmonton coughed up 12 goals in falling behind in the series 2-0, but the Oilers have bounced back, scoring 11 over Games 3 and 4, both wins. In LA, Edmonton will look to recapture some regular-season road magic that saw the club go 6-3-0 away from home after March 14.

The man advantage has propelled big scoring numbers for the Kings. Los Angeles has filed 7 power-play goals in this series. Since March 30, LA has averaged 4.43 goals per game over its last 14 games. Over that stretch, the Kings have gone 17-for-53 (32.1%) on the power play.

Oilers at Kings picks and predictionsPrediction

Oilers 3, Kings 2

Dating back to the regular season, the Oilers have lost four straight games in Los Angeles. But in this series, Edmonton is the squad getting better looks in 5-on-5 play. The Oilers’ penalty kill was solid down the stretch, but they’ve been torched for 7 PP goals in this series (although the Edmonton PK went a key 3-for-3 in a 4-3 overtime win Sunday).

Look for some confidence from that outing and from the way they handled business in a 7-4 Game 3 win. Puck-possession and expected-goal analytics are pro-Oilers in this spot. Worth a shot against an LA club that plays well at home.

TAKE EDMONTON (+115).

Lots of juice here. AVOID.

The Over is 4-0 in this series, but the Under cashed in 3 regular-season meetings since the beginning of the calendar year, and that includes 2 Unders in April games.

The play here is on the gravity of the game. Shooting percentages level off. Five straight Oilers-Kings games from Dec. 28-April 21 were tabbed with a 5.5 total. TAKE THE UNDER 6.5 (-120).
