Lucas Raymond was in the Swedish lineup for the first time since the quarter-finals of the Winter Olympics, but it was another Detroit Red Wings player who was the country’s scoring star.

Red Wings defenseman Albert Johansson scored twice as the Swedes blanked Switzerland 3-0 in the Beijer Games. The tournament is an annual precursor to the IIHF World Championship.
Johansson only scored three goals all season in Detroit. He was seeing his first action with the national team since the 2020-21 season.
Johansson was skating in a pairing with Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Interestingly, Ekman-Larsson, who was wearing the captain’s C, was linked to the Red Wings in rumors right before the NHL trade deadline.

Expectations are that the tandem could be Sweden’s top defensive pairing at the world tourney.
“They get a lot of minutes, and they do very well,” Swedish coach Sam Hallam told Swedish TV Network SVT. He wasn’t ready to commit to them as his club’s top D pairing.
“It could be,” Hallam said. “We’ll see how we shape it in the end.
“It depends on which eight defenders we bring to the World Cup. But they’re showing a game now that can really be built on.”

The goals were the second and third that Johansson has scored in the uniform of the Swedish senior national team.
Former Red Wings Also Step Up For Swedes
Sweden’s other goal came from former Red Wings forward Jacob de la Rose. And in goal, making 25 saves for the shutout, was another ex-Wing, goalie Magnus Hellberg.
“Exactly the message we wanted,” former NHL defenseman Oscar Klefbom told SVT. “Hellberg will be incredibly important.”
