Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan on the verge of making history as the London Knights prepare for the Memorial Cup Final on Sunday.

The London Knights had revenge on their minds all season long after being ousted in the Memorial Cup Finals last year at the hands of the Saginaw Spirit. They ran through the OHL circuit in just 18 games but were unable to take home the Memorial Cup.

Fast forward a calendar year and the Knights have returned with fervour as they bested their previous season’s playoff run by one game as they handled their business with 3 sweeps before a 5-game championship round.

Cowan, playing in what will be his final game as a member of the Knights organization, is on the verge of setting a record never before seen in junior hockey since 1972 as he stands a chance at finishing as the tournament’s top scorer in consecutive years.

He finished last year’s tournament with 8 points and currently stands atop of the circuit with 6. It’s fair to suggest that Cowan may get on the board again tonight, which will be needed if the Knights hope to defeat the Medicine Hat Tigers in the final.

He is in for some stiff competition as fellow teammate Denver Barkey is one point back with 5, while Medicine Hat duo Gavin McKenna and Ryder Ritchie both have 5 points apiece as well.

London previously lost their round robin game against Medicine Hat, which then forced them into a winner-take-all matchup against Moncton for the second spot in the championship round, which they won on Friday.

Puck for tonight’s Memorial Cup Final is set to drop shortly after 7:00 p.m. ET as London looks for their 3rd Memorial Cup win and first since 2016.
