The Columbus Blue Jackets got an early start on their offseason spending on Tuesday morning. The Blue Jackets signed Charlie Coyle to a six-year contract extension that is worth a total of $36 million. Coyle is certainly happy to remain with the Blue Jackets. And fans are starting to learn more about what this contract entails.

“Charlie Coyle’s 6-year, $36M contract with #CBJ comes with a full no-movement clause in Years 1-4, a 20-team no-trade list in Year 5 and a 10-team no-trade list in Year 6,” David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported on Tuesday evening.

Coyle completed his first season with the Blue Jackets in 2025-26. He was traded by the Colorado Avalanche last summer as Colorado attempted to shed a bit of salary. The veteran pivot responded with one of his best seasons in the NHL in quite a while.

He played all 82 games for Columbus in 2025-26. He scored 20 goals and 58 points in that time, as well. His goal total is the highest he’s scored since 2023-24. His 58 points are also a personal best since that 2023-24 campaign with the record-breaking Boston Bruins.

The Blue Jackets struggled early in the season. However, after a midyear coaching change, they made a valiant push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the end, they fell short, but Coyle was a consistent driving force for this team all year long.

“I’ve seen what we have,” Coyle said after re-signing with Columbus, via NHL.com. “I’ve seen our potential and I’m excited for it and it’s something I want to be here for and work towards and the team we have, the depth we have, it’s something that excites me and something that I want to be a part of going forward, and something that we can build because it’s there. I know it’s there.”
