Stockton unveils new pro hockey franchise with team name, roster still in the air

Professional hockey is returning to Stockton this fall, with a Federal Prospects Hockey League team that is yet to be named. City leaders, including Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi, held a press conference on Wednesday alongside FPHL Commissioner Don Kirnan, officially unveiling the team and expressing excitement over the sport being back in Stockton for the first time since 2022.The team does not yet have a name, official logo, coach or roster of players. There will be a “Name the team” contest that will allow fans to vote online. The league, which has 15 teams in the eastern half of the United States, also announced new teams in Oceanside and Fresno earlier this month as part as a West Coast expansion.”Stockton isn’t lucky to have hockey, hockey’s lucky to have Stockton,” said Scott Brand, FPHL president and general manager. Brand said that the league is still looking for television and radio partners for its new Stockton team. While many details remain uncertain, when the FPHL season begins in October, a puck will be gliding across the ice at Adventist Health Arena.
