The NHL has already declared the Dallas Stars for an outdoor game in 2027, but there is a chance the Los Angeles Kings could get one in the future. Additionally, the outdoor venue would be something unique, with the event taking place on the beach, according to Andy Tonge of Mayor’s Manor.

“It could be a great visual and certainly would be special. I think the one thing that we have to be careful of is [if it’s very] windy and a bunch of sand ends up on the ice. It can be a problem, but it’s definitely something we’ve entertained. And we’ve discussed [with] the Ducks,” team president Luc Robitaille told Tonge.
The Kings played the Anaheim Ducks in the 2014 Stadium Series at Dodger Stadium. This past season, the Stadium Series was in Florida, indicating the league’s direction. Previously, the NHL held the 2025 Winter Classic in Chicago, a classic Original 6 location. With the Kings hosting the Ducks in 2014, there is a good chance it could happen again.
Robitaille has discussed several locations, including Santa Monica and the South Bay. Significantly, there is more of a chance Santa Monica could get it because of the connection to Goldenvoice, which is a subsidiary of AEG, which is the parent company of the Kings. When discussing the game, Robitaille stated how this game could play out.
“I could see it maybe being like a preseason game or two. It could be a lot of fun, just doing a big event outdoors,[similar to] the setting that we had in Vegas when we played there in ’91,” Robitaille told Tonge.
Time will tell if the Kings can cement another outdoor game. For now, the talks continue to circulate.
