The Vancouver Canucks are coming off one of the worst seasons in franchise history, but the return of Henrik and Daniel Sedin, the Hall of Fame brothers who brought the team to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, brings a sense of hope and pride to a fanbase in desperate need of it.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton are joined by The Nation Network editor-in-chief and Canucks’ Army reporter David Quadrelli to discuss the Sedins’ return to the front office and what comes next in Vancouver.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I know Ryan Johnson is the GM, but I think it’s interesting how with the Toronto Maple Leafs, they hired Mats Sundin. There wasn’t pushback on it, but the fanbase wasn’t really like, “Oh wow, Mats Sundin is back in the mix!” It was more like a raised eyebrow, as he hasn’t worked with a National Hockey League team.

What’s the general vibe with the Sedins coming back in their role?

David Quadrelli: “Awesome. Hope.” The last time the Sedins were the face of the franchise, they were players. So now they’re the face of the franchise, one again, and there’s a ton of hope.

Gentlemen, I think the best way to sum up the Canucks’ dysfunction over the past, give it 10 years, right? Maybe five years? Whatever timeframe you want to put on it, the best way to sum it up is that they haven’t treated people the right way.

It’s been bad for a number of years. The players have been checked out of the community. That’s a big thing that Daniel Sedin harped on Thursday during the press conference. Even with the media pool, and I know this was felt through the fanbase, but just hearing Daniel Sedin say “When we got here 26 years ago, this is the No. 1 organization for community outreach and involvement … and we have to get back to being the top of the league in that department.”

It’s damn outright shameful how far away they got from that in the past number of years, really since the Sedins retired. So it’s awesome to have those guys back at the front of the organization. That’s the general sentiment from the fans.
