The Montreal Canadiens’ 8-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 6 really hurt Canadiens fans last night.
It was a major frustrating loss that discouraged many fans, even the most optimistic ones.
Unfortunately, that frustration also left its mark on the streets of Montreal.
A regrettable incident occurred at the corner of Maisonneuve and St-Urbain during the night.
An SPVM police vehicle was set on fire by individuals with malicious intent.
Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control around midnight, but it still remains regrettable.
SPVM surveillance footage and a disappointing Canadiens loss fuel debate after downtown Montreal incident
The suspects were seen on surveillance cameras before and after their criminal act.
It’s unfortunate because this may represent only 0.1% of the people who were downtown last night for the Canadiens game, but it is obviously making headlines today.
We do not even know if those involved were truly Montreal Canadiens fans, but it inevitably reignites the debate.
But despite those instructions, certain individuals decided to go against the recommendations.
Hopefully this type of incident will not happen again when (hopefully) our Canadiens return home to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final of the National Hockey League.
It is worth remembering that the Canadiens had the opportunity to close out the series against the Sabres in front of their fans at the Bell Centre.
But the Canadiens massively disappointed at the worst possible moment.
“You have to give credit to the other team, they played a very good game. We did not have much composure or poise. It was not a good game for us.”
That perfectly sums up his team’s performance.
For the Canadiens, a potential elimination now awaits the team Monday night at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center.
The decisive Game 7 will be played at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
The Canadiens are heading to Buffalo with a locker room that will need to regroup within 48 hours.
Head coach Martin St-Louis will need to find the right words to calm his young players and mentally prepare them for the ultimate game.
Not an easy task under the circumstances.
