The Dallas Stars have assigned defenseman Alex Petrovic and goaltender Ben Kraws to the Texas Stars, it was announced Sunday.
Kraws, who is in his first full season of pro hockey, split time between Texas and the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads this year. In 40 ECHL games, he went 23-12-5 along with a 2.88 GAA and a .910 SP. With a smaller body of work in the AHL, Kraws went 2-1-0 while posting a 3.01 GAA and a .889 SP in three appearances.

Prior to joining Texas at the end of last season, Kraws spent five seasons in the NCAA, suiting up for Miami (Ohio), Arizona State and St. Lawrence.
Having played an important role for the Stars during their playoff run, Petrovic returns to Texas after spending the majority of the regular season with the team. Through 58 regular season games, he scored five goals and added 20 assists for 25 points. While he collected two points in 17 playoff games with Dallas, it was Petrovic’s physicality and steadying presence that endeared him to Stars fans.
Drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft, Petrovic has played in 269 career NHL regular season games with Florida, Dallas, and the Edmonton Oilers. Across that time, he has put up five goals and 45 assists for 50 points.
With Petrovic and Kraws joining Texas, Kraws will likely not see playing time but Petrovic should figure to have a big role. Having served as an assistant captain in each of his four seasons with the team, Petrovic is an important part of Texas’ roster and will be crucial if they hope to push back against the Abbotsford Canucks and even up their series.
