Another day, another must-win game for the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Down 2-1 against the Chicago Wolves in the best-of-five Central Division Final, the Griffins must win tonight’s Game 4 or be eliminated from the AHL playoffs.
“Nothing changes,” Grand Rapids coach Dan Watson said. “We’ve got to win another road game. That’s the bottom line. We’ve been a good road team all year long. We’ve got to try and find a way to beat a good Wolves team. It’s going to be harder than it was (Tuesday). We understand that. We know that our guys will be ready.”
The first three games have all been one-goal decisions, with the last two settled in overtime by a 4-3 final score.
“I think both teams are playing their style of hockey — playing the way they need to play to have success,” Watson said. “Chicago was one shot away from moving on and we were one shot away from extending it (in Game 3). We got that one. They got one the other night (in Game 2).”

Who’s Hot For The Griffins
Carter Mazur, projected to be a regular for the Red Wings next season, shows five goals and six points in seven games in the ongoing AHL playoffs
Who’s Not
Griffins captain Dominik Shine scored 21 goals in 40 games for his team in the regular season. However, he has no goals in seven games in the AHL playoffs
What Griffins Want to Do
Create traffic in front of Primeau: The Griffins poured 46 shots on Chicago’s net in Game 3. If the Griffins can give Primeau a more obstructed view it will result in more goals.
Stay out of the penalty box: The Wolves are a skilled team up front. You are asking for trouble every time you give them a power play. They are scoring at 24.1% on the power play in the playoffs. The Grand Rapids penalty kill is only at 75% in the postseason
Strong start: Momentum swings have been noticeable in these AHL playoffs. But scoring first to create an early lead seems to be important for the Griffins to remind them how special this season has been for them.
