The NHL has officially announced an unexpected change regarding the Carolina Hurricanes’ overtime game-winning goal against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Game 3 winning goal was awarded, changed, and then re-awarded in an absolutely unique sequence.
The NHL shared footage of the controversial goal on social media.
Some clearly saw goaltender interference on Dobes.
It is officially the first playoff overtime goal of Andrei Svechnikov’s career
Ryan Henkel shared the information on social media.
“This was Andrei Svechnikov’s first career playoff overtime goal.”
A significant achievement for the young Svechnikov.
But let’s just say it was not easy for the National Hockey League to determine, and frankly, it’s a bit embarrassing.
The Hurricanes’ game-winning goal was initially awarded to Andrei Svechnikov.
Before changing it once again to officially give it back to Svechnikov.
Cory Lavalette confirmed the final decision on social media.
“The goal is back to Svechnikov. Jarvis with the lone assist.”
Did they actually get a proper look at what happened on that goal in the end?
For Martin St-Louis and the Canadiens, it is also an extremely frustrating situation.
The team has just lost a crucial home game in overtime under somewhat unclear circumstances.
Now it remains to be seen how the Canadiens will recover from this painful loss. And whether the team will take advantage of Game 4 at the Bell Centre to tie the series at 2-2.
