Three Montreal Canadiens players are mysteriously absent from practice in Brossard this morning, one day after the loss to the Hurricanes.

In Fowler’s case, it is understandable, but for the others, let’s just say it does not send the best message.

Well, obviously, the chances of seeing Patrik Laine return to Martin St-Louis’ lineup during the 2026 playoffs are nonexistent, but in Gallagher’s case, why not?

The reason for their absence remains unconfirmed by the organization for now, but it is already providing clues about the next game.

Maxime Truman shared the information on social media this morning.

“The guys who aren’t playing are all skating in Brossard this morning, except Brendan Gallagher, Patrik Laine, and Jacob Fowler.”

The excellent Pat Guillet also confirmed the presence of the other reserve players.

The absence of Brendan Gallagher, Patrik Laine, and Jacob Fowler in Brossard this morning remains unexplained for now

Usually, all players who do not play in a game take the ice the following day to maintain their conditioning and prove they remain ready if needed.

That is precisely the routine for the Black Aces and reserve players during the playoffs.

For Oliver Kapanen, who is practicing with the reserves for the first time after being removed from the lineup for last night’s game, it is also probably a difficult situation to process.

The young Finn will need to keep working to eventually regain his spot.

But a positive attitude is clearly being maintained.
