The NHL officially confirmed the officials’ mistake following Noah Dobson‘s disallowed goal in the third period of Game 3 between the Canadiens and the Canes.

And it is exactly the kind of decision that has people talking around the National Hockey League today.

The linesmen made a mistake on the sequence leading to Dobson’s goal, and it visibly disrupted the Canadiens’ momentum.

TVA Sports analysts, including Max Lapierre and Antoine Roussel, discussed it after the game, and the Canadiens appeared affected by the false celebration after Dobson’s disallowed goal, which would have been their third of the game.

Cory Lavalette shared the NHL’s official explanation on social media.

Cole Caufield was offside just before Noah Dobson’s disallowed goal according to the NHL

The league’s official explanation is detailed.

“The play on the ice was challenged under Rule 38 for Coach’s Challenge.

Video review determined that Canadiens forward Cole Caufield preceded the puck into the offensive zone and was in an offside position prior to Noah Dobson’s goal.”

So that is what happened.

It was precisely this review that allowed the Hurricanes to win their challenge and remove Noah Dobson’s goal from the scoreboard.

Noah Dobson’s goal had initially been allowed by the officials on the ice.

The Canadiens were celebrating. The Bell Centre was erupting with joy.

Rod Brind’Amour immediately decided to challenge the call.

And the video review ultimately confirmed the linesmen’s mistake!

For Cole Caufield personally, it is probably also a frustration, and it was clearly visible during his post-game press conference.
