Journalist Stu Cowan brought up an uncomfortable situation within the Montreal Canadiens organization, and it is generating plenty of reaction today.
After Patrik Laine, another player has now contradicted one of Kent Hughes’ statements during his press conference. In short, Brendan Gallagher also publicly contradicted Kent Hughes regarding the treatment of veteran players, just minutes after the Montreal Canadiens general manager had addressed the subject.
It was columnist Stu Cowan who pointed out the awkward situation on Tony Marinaro’s podcast.
A sequence that did not go unnoticed in Brossard.
Hughes had initially delivered a reassuring message.
The GM had assured everyone that regardless of what happened next, Gallagher would be treated with the utmost respect.
But the veteran delivered a very different message.
Speaking to the media, the forward said the opposite, and Gallagher clearly felt that the organization had not treated him with the greatest level of respect.
“The way they’ve handled these veterans since they arrived, it’s just really surprising,” the journalist said.
Words loaded with meaning.
He pushed his analysis even further.
According to him, this management approach leaves “a bitter taste after such a positive season.”
Why would such a loyal player reach this point publicly?
Because the end of his season has clearly left scars.
Stu Cowan urges the Canadiens to trade the veteran quickly
The point of contention is clear.
Gallagher played in only 3 of the Canadiens’ 19 playoff games.
Cowan did not hold back when discussing one particular decision.
He said he disagreed with the choice to leave the veteran in the press box for Game 5 against Carolina.
You can say that many of us agree with him.
The columnist goes even further in his analysis.
He believes Hughes cannot allow this situation to drag on and that Gallagher should be traded as quickly as possible.

It remains to be seen how Hughes will defuse this now-public situation.
When a heart-and-soul player publicly contradicts his own GM, it forces a quick response.
And every day of waiting risks making the atmosphere surrounding this seemingly inevitable split even heavier.
