Could the Montreal Canadiens acquire Mason McTavish at a reasonable price?

Paul Bissonnette believes that a simple first-round pick would be enough to convince the Anaheim Ducks.

It was on Spittin’ Chiclets that the former player made that assessment.

A comment that quickly caught the attention of Canadiens fans for obvious reasons.

The context behind the discussion is clear.

Numerous rumours are surrounding the young centre’s future in Anaheim this summer, and things do not appear to be going particularly well between McTavish and head coach Joel Quenneville.

McTavish is reportedly among the names who could be moved.

The speculation surrounding him is reminiscent of the rumours that preceded Trevor Zegras‘ departure, as he ultimately ended up being traded for very little.

Bissonnette’s valuation is certainly intriguing.

A first-round pick for a centre of that age and calibre would be a very reasonable price.

It is exactly the type of move that could interest Kent Hughes.

The general manager has been looking for a long-term solution to the club’s persistent second-line centre issue for quite some time.

Mason McTavish could finally give the Canadiens the second-line centre they’ve been seeking

The position behind Nick Suzuki has remained unfilled for years.

The captain, coming off a 101-point season, needs a true partner down the middle.

McTavish would offer exactly the kind of young, long-term solution the Canadiens are seeking.

Unlike a short-term rental, he would fit directly into the club’s competitive window.

The price being discussed changes the entire equation.

If a single first-round pick is enough, the risk becomes significantly more acceptable for Montreal.

The question now is whether Anaheim will actually make a move, and if so, at what price.

It remains to be seen whether Hughes will take a run at this opportunity.
