A former Dallas Stars standout appears to be in the running for an NHL head coaching job.

Pavelski was one of the most accomplished late-round draftees in NHL history, appearing in 1,332 games throughout his career. He recorded 1,068 points (476 goals and 592 assists). Later in his playing stint, Pavelski played a key role as a veteran playmaker for the Stars. His leadership was crucial to the development of Wyatt Johnston, who lived at the Pavelski home as he found his footing in Dallas.

Friedman added that Pavelski is currently coaching his son, Nate, at the youth hockey level in Madison, Wisconsin. The Maple Leafs are conducting an extensive search for a new head coach after Craig Berube was fired in March.

Toronto has backed away from a few head coaching candidates due to a “lack of experience,” Friedman reported. Could Pavelski soon make the jump and lead an NHL squad?
