[IOWA CITY, Iowa] — The Iowa Board of Regents will consider several major University of Iowa athletics projects at its next meeting.

One proposal calls for renovations to Carver-Hawkeye Arena, estimated to cost between $50 million and $70 million. Iowa says all funding will come through gifts to the athletic department.

The planned upgrades include new premium seating options, a club space and improvements to the concourse, concessions, restrooms and seating bowl. The work would be done over two years to minimize disruptions during the season.

Iowa says the arena might see a modest seating capacity reduction once the project is complete.

The school is also asking for approval to begin building a new field hockey operations building. It would be built next to Grant Field.

The estimated $8.65 million cost would also be funded through donations. The building would include new locker rooms, coaches’ offices, a film room, conference room and a multi-purpose space.

If approved, construction would begin this summer and wrap up next summer. Iowa says the field hockey team is the winningest in Big Ten history.
