Good news for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
Goaltender Yevgeni Volokhin has been named the VHL’s top goaltender for the 2025-26 season. He continues to impress, and while all eyes are understandably focused on Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler as the Canadiens’ goaltenders of the future, Volokhin should not be forgotten either.
In any case, this is another individual honour for the organization’s prospect.
It’s a recognition that highlights an especially successful season.
The numbers are quite incredible.
Volokhin finished the regular season with a 25-10-5 record.
The goaltender posted a .948 save percentage, the best mark in his league.
A .948 save percentage is truly sensational!
His goals-against average is just as impressive.
Volokhin recorded a 1.51 goals-against average, along with 9 shutouts.
A season like that does not go unnoticed.
Dominating his league to that extent earned him, unsurprisingly, the title of the league’s top goaltender.
The announcement adds another promising name to the organization’s goaltending depth chart.
Another goaltender added to an already deep pipeline for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens
It is safe to say that Kent Hughes hit the mark with this fifth-round selection in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Jakub Dobes had a good season in Montreal, but as Hughes and Jeff Gorton have often mentioned, you can never have too many good young goaltenders!
Volokhin now joins an intriguing group.
Such dominance guarantees nothing, but it certainly draws attention.
It remains to be seen what the next step in Volokhin’s development will be.
