We have movement within the Montreal Canadiens organization.
The Trois-Rivières Lions, an affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, unveiled on Tuesday the list of players protected by the organization moving forward.
It is an important administrative step.
It marks the beginning of a process that will reshape the Canadiens’ organizational depth, and it involves several names you may know well.
A few familiar names to the public are indeed included on the list.
Among them are Anthony Beauregard, Isaac Dufort, Andrew Coxhead, Mathias Laferrière, and Joël Teasdale.
The list currently contains 26 players.
However, the team will have to reduce it over the coming weeks, and it will already provide a good indication of which players (from this list) could be invited to the next Montreal Canadiens training camp.
The Lions have until June 22 to reduce the list from 26 to 20 players.
That reduction will be used to build the end-of-season roster.
Protected list decision confirms the departure of several players
Other deadlines will follow quickly.
The team will have until July 7 to submit qualifying offers to players on the end-of-season roster.
The players will then have their say.
They will be able to accept or reject those offers until July 22.
One important clarification accompanies this list.
It does not include players who held American Hockey League or NHL contracts.
For the others, their fate has unfortunately been decided.
All players not included on this list are automatically released.
