Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final is tied after the first period with the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes knotted at 1-1. Those first 20 minutes had plenty of pace, and each goal was the result of a superb play.
Pavel Dorofeyev opened the scoring for the Golden Knights, and that was a welcomed sight for his team. Dorofeyev hadn’t scored in the series — and more importantly — he snapped a 1-for-12 slump for the Vegas power play. Jack Eichel, who has also been relatively quiet, set up Dorofeyev with a picture perfect feed.
From one player who had trouble scoring in the Final to another who can’t stop, Jordan Staal tied the game shortly after Dorofeyev’s tally. Staal deflected home a shot pass from Nikolaj Ehlers to push his Stanley Cup Final goal streak to five games, which put him in the company of players like Jean Beliveau and Maurice Richard.
