The Providence Bruins will need a new captain next season.

Former Providence captain Patrick Brown has signed with Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (Germany). Adler Mannheim announced the signing on Friday.

Brown spent the last three seasons with the Bruins organization, playing in 169 games with Providence and 26 with Boston. He spent the last two seasons as the captain in Providence, and before joining the Bruins, he wore the ‘C’ for the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers (CAR, at the time) and Henderson Silver Knights (VGK).

Brown has routinely been a steady presence with young players, helping them grow into roster spots. When James Hagens arrived in Providence, he started on a line with Brown. Both players are Boston College alumni.

Brown played in 26 NHL games during his first two seasons with the Bruins. He finished with two assists, 10 penalty minutes, and a combined minus-5. Brown primarily plugged in on the fourth line, but did not get called up in the 2025-26 season.

The Bloomfield Hills, MI native played in 71 games with Providence this past season, finishing with 54 points (20-34–54) and a team-leading plus-36. He served as a captain at the AHL All-Star Classic. He also won the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award, given to the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to hockey.

In total, Brown scored 48 goals, 84 assists, and finished his P-Bruins tenure with 132 points. He added two goals and four assists in 15 playoff games.

Brown, 34, joins former NHL head coach Dallas Eakins and old teammate Dan Renouf with Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Adler Mannheim finished the 2025-26 season second in the DEL and lost to Eisbären Berlin in the championship.

“Patrick had numerous offers from North America and Europe, but ultimately he chose an environment that prioritizes teamwork, inclusion, and a shared commitment to helping each other achieve excellence,” Eakins said in the team’s press release. “He’s a player who leads by example every day and continually makes the people around him better. We’re confident that Patrick and his family will be an excellent fit for us, and we’re excited to see the impact he’ll have both on and off the ice.”
