The search for a new head coach for the Laval Rocket is ramping up, as several names are being mentioned to replace Pascal Vincent within the Canadiens organization.
It was Maxime Truman who notably shared this information.
He says he gathered these names while speaking with people around the hockey community.
One candidate reportedly stands out from the rest, according to him.
Truman claims that Daniel Jacob would be a very serious candidate for the position.
But he is not the only name being mentioned.
Truman has also heard the names Benoit Groulx, Daniel Renaud, Yanick Jean, and Steve Hartley.
However, these names remain at the rumor stage.
No candidacy has been officially confirmed by the Canadiens at this point.
Some disagreement over the potential candidates to replace Pascal Vincent with the Laval Rocket
Sources do not all agree on the same names.
That is particularly the case regarding Sylvain Favreau’s candidacy.
Truman added some nuance on that subject.
He specified that nobody had mentioned Favreau to him, without ruling him out as a candidate.
Other observers see it differently.
Stéphane Leroux of RDS believes that Favreau and Benoit Groulx should be at the top of the list.
These differing opinions highlight the uncertainty surrounding the process.
You can see Truman’s comments here:
“I’m told that Daniel Jacob is a VERY serious candidate to lead the Laval Rocket.
Benoit Groulx, Daniel Renaud, Yanick Jean, and Steve Hartley are all names I’ve heard since the announcement of Pascal Vincent’s departure, while chatting with people in the know.
I’m not saying that Sylvain Favreau isn’t a candidate, but no one’s mentioned him to me, personally.”
It remains to be seen who will ultimately inherit this important position within the Montreal Canadiens organization.
The choice of this coach will say a lot about the club’s development philosophy.
And with a young core continuing to rise through the system, the decision will be a major one.
It should also be noted that other outlets have floated names such as Paul Byron or Carey Price, but that would be quite surprising at this point.
