Andre Gasseau was leaving the Boston Bruins anyway.
So rather than lose the prospect for nothing, the Bruins shipped Gasseau to San Jose on Thursday, trading his signing rights, along with a fourth-round pick (120th overall) in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, to the Sharks for a fourth-round pick (104th overall) and a fifth-round pick (157th overall).
The Bruins selected Gasseau in the seventh round of the 2021 draft with the 213th overall pick. He spent the last four years playing at Boston College, where he appeared in 131 games for the Eagles, recording 103 points with 43 goals and 66 assists.
However, after completing his senior season this past spring, Gasseau remained without a contract, and was set to become an unrestricted free agent when his exclusive signing rights with the Bruins expired on August 15.
Typically, when drafted players reach their senior season without a pro contract in the waiting, the opt to test free agency, where more potential bidders can give them added leverage in negotiations. Gasseau is no different.
But rather than simply letting Gasseau go to market, the Bruins made sure to at least get some assets back in return for him.
Following the trade, the Bruins now have a total of eight picks in the upcoming draft and have moved up 16 spots from their original pick in the fourth round.

The 2026 NHL Entry Draft begins next week, starting with the first round on June 26, followed by Rounds 2-7 on June 27.
