The Bruins were not able to sign Andre Gasseau, but at least they got a little something for him.
The B’s traded the former Boston College player along with one of their three fourth-round picks (120th overall) to the San Jose Sharks for a fourth-round pick (104th overall, via Florida) and a fifth-round pick (157th overall, via Montreal).
The B’s had selected the 6-foot-4, 224-pound California native with their seventh-round pick (213th overall) in the 2021 draft. Gasseau played four years at the Heights, his best season being his junior year when he had 15-15-30 totals in 36 games. He had the ability to become a free agent later this summer and he apparently saw greener pastures elsewhere.
Gasseau is projected to be a bottom-six player if he makes the NHL and the B’s have a number of those players. Perhaps believing opportunity was better elsewhere, he informed the B’s he was not going to sign. The Sharks are stockpiling some high-end talent but every team needs grinders and Gasseau could be that for them.
