The Detroit Red Wings are entering the offseason with plenty of cap space. Because of this, they should be looking to add new talent to their roster. This is especially so when noting that they extended their playoff drought to 10 years due to their ugly finish to the 2025-26 season.
One way the Red Wings could look to improve their roster is through the free agent market. While this year’s pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) are not the strongest bunch, there are still some interesting players whom the Red Wings should consider targeting. Edmonton Oilers forward Jack Roslovic is one of them.
With the Red Wings being in need of more secondary scoring, Roslovic would be a nice addition to their roster. The skilled forward just put together a solid season for the Oilers in 2025-26, posting 21 goals, 15 assists, and 36 points in 69 games. This is after the Columbus, Ohio native recorded 22 goals and 39 points in 81 games for the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2024-25 season.
With numbers like these, Roslovic would be a welcome addition to the Red Wings’ roster. Keep in mind, Detroit had just three players on their roster who scored over 20 goals this past season. With this, the Red Wings could use another forward who can put the puck in the net, and bringing in Roslovic would provide them with just that.
Furthermore, with Roslovic being 29 years old, he is right in his prime. Because of this, the Red Wings could comfortably sign him to a two-year or three-year deal with little risk. This undoubtedly adds to his appeal.
Where could Roslovic fit in the Red Wings’ lineup?
Another very good aspect about Roslovic is that he can play both center and on the wing. As a result, the Red Wings would be able to place him in multiple spots in their lineup if they brought him in. Versatile players are always good for NHL teams to have around, but especially when injuries start to pile up.
Depending on what moves the Red Wings make this summer, Roslovic could be a fit on either Detroit’s second or third line if they brought him in. He would also provide the Red Wings with another option to consider for either of their power play units.
Ultimately, with the Red Wings needing more depth scoring, Roslovic could make sense for them to bring in. While signing him would not be a major splash for the Red Wings, he would have the potential to give the Red Wings’ roster a bit of a boost. Let’s see if they target him from here, but the fit looks good on paper.
