Stanley Cup champions Carolina Hurricanes plan downtown Raleigh parade
WE’LL HAVE MORE COMING UP. ALL RIGHT, MICHELLE, WE’LL TALK TO YOU JUST A LITTLE BIT. WE ARE JUST HOURS AWAY NOW FROM THE FLOODING THE STREETS OF RALEIGH TO CELEBRATE THE BIG STANLEY CUP VICTORY AND RETURNING TO THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA. PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY, CITY WIDE AND OUR BETHANY CATES IS DOWNTOWN ON FAYETTEVILLE STREET TO TELL US HOW SOME PEOPLE ARE GETTING READY. CAN YOU TELL ME THE MESSAGES TO GET HERE EARLY? I SPOKE WITH A FEW PEOPLE WHO TELL ME IT’S TIME TO GET YOUR WALKING SHOES AND TO PACK A LITTLE BIT OF PATIENCE, BECAUSE SATURDAY IS ALL ABOUT THE CANES AND THE CITY IS READY TO WELCOME YOU ALL. WE’RE FIRED UP. I’M EXCITED AND LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. ALL WEEK. WE WERE HERE 20 YEARS AGO WHEN THEY HAD THE LAST PARADE, AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO MISS TOMORROW. WE WALK FOR OUR CANES. AFTER TWO DECADES. MANY ARE IN COUNTDOWN IN PREPARATION MODE FOR A PARADE THAT THEY’VE BEEN WAITING ON SINCE 2006. I WAS SIX YEARS OLD WHEN WE WON OUR LAST CUP, AND THE BABYSITTER SENT ME TO BED EARLY, SO THIS TIME I DID NOT GO TO BED EARLY. FANS ARE ALREADY MARKING THEIR TERRITORY FOR THE PARADE ROUTE AND FINDING THE BEST SPOT AS FENCES AND BARRICADES ARE GOING UP BY THE SECOND, CITY OFFICIALS PREPARE FOR A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE FLOODING THE STREETS. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS A GOOD SPOT? SO WE’RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WE’RE SCOPING IT OUT, SOME EVEN SUGGESTING YOU MIGHT WANT TO SECURE YOUR RIDE IN ADVANCE. THERE’S A LOT OF BUZZ RIGHT NOW. YOU WANT TO LOOK AT UBER DROP OFFS. YOU WANT TO FIND THE CLOSEST AREA WHERE YOU CAN CARPOOL AND GET DROPPED OFF A COUPLE OF BLOCKS AWAY. BECAUSE ALL OF ALL OF THIS FAYETTEVILLE STREET IS GOING TO BE BLOCKED OFF. I STOPPED IN A FEW BUSINESSES WHO SAY THEY’RE PREPARING MORE FOOD THAN USUAL, AND WILL HAVE ALL HANDS ON DECK TO FACILITATE THE TRAFFIC FOR SATURDAY’S PARADE. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU’LL BE IN GREAT COMPANY WITH ALL THE CANDIDATES WHO HAVE COME FROM NEAR AND FAR TO WATCH THIS MONUMENTAL MOMENT. THEY BETTER GET HERE. THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING. IT’S GOING TO BE BUSY TOMORROW. PARTY TOMORROW IN DOWNTOWN RALEIGH FOR SURE. IN MY LIFETIME. I MAY NOT SEE THIS AGAIN, BUT FOR RIGHT NOW, WE CELEBRATE AND WE ENJOY. SO LET’S GO CANES. JUST MAYHEM. JUST LIKE LENOVO SAID, IT’S GOING TO BE ELECTRIC. ABSOLUTELY ELECTRIC AND MAYHEM. NOW YOU STILL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO GO THROUGH YOUR CHECKLIST AND TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED, BECAUSE ON SATURDAY, WHERE I’M STANDING RIGHT NOW WILL BE A SEA OF RED, BLACK AND WHITE.
