A few days before the NHL Draft, prospect Maddox Dagenais named a Montreal Canadiens player among those who inspire him.
The 30-goal scorer is being mentioned more and more often as a player the Canadiens could seriously consider selecting in the first round of the draft.
During the NHL Combine, the young forward spoke and made a very interesting statement.
Dagenais revealed his two NHL role models.
Two names stood out in his answer.
“Tage Thompson and Slafkovsky,” he said. Two forwards he admires for very specific reasons.
Clearly, the young prospect is drawn to a particular style of player.
According to him, they are “Two big guys that use their size and good offensively as well.”
That profile says a lot about his aspirations.
Dagenais appears to want to build his game around power and offense, just like Slafkovsky, and like Tage Thompson as well.
Juraj Slafkovsky‘s influence could make Maddox Dagenais an intriguing Canadiens draft target
Choosing Slafkovsky as a role model is far from insignificant.
The Canadiens forward perfectly fits the profile Dagenais described.
Slafkovsky embodies that type of player.
A big-bodied forward who can combine physical presence with offensive production.
Seeing a prospect look up to him is a nice nod, and it also speaks to the influence a player like him is already having on the next generation.
You can watch his interview here:
It remains to be seen where Dagenais will be selected in the draft.
Drawing inspiration from physically imposing players provides insight into the type of forward he wants to become.
Could he be the Montreal Canadiens’ first-round pick?
