The New York Rangers cannot replicate the 2024-2025 NHL season. Instead, GM Chris Drury will go big game hunting in July, as they look to keep themselves competitive by adding great players like Nikolaj Ehlers.

The New York Rangers finished 5th in the Metropolitan Division under Peter Laviolette. The team’s underachievements didn’t go unnoticed or unpunished, as halfway through the season, Chris Drury would begin to dismantle the same core that won the Presidents’ Trophy only a year ago.

With a new Head Coach, Mike Sullivan, so goes the direction. The team hopes to remain a contender while acquiring the best talent that it can in the offseason.

One of those players would be the Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers, who is a dark horse candidate for any NHL team’s top-six.

Of course, acquiring him would mean the Rangers would need to clear the cap space to make it work.

«If they do clear enough space to sign Ehlers, he could be a perfect fit Ehlers solves a lot of problems,» the article read. «He’s a left-shooting winger who has played portions of his NHL career on the right side.

Ehlers could be an upgrade to the aging Rangers’ right wing, in Chris Kreider. He’s a capable playmaker with some wheels, and maybe, just maybe, improve Mika Zibanejad‘s game if he’s slotted back in at center next season.

This season, Ehlers scored a total of 63 points (24 goals, 39 assists) in 69 games with the Jets.

The Jets forward contract expires at the end of the season, as his 7-year, $6 million deal ends in July.
