Well, it’s safe to say the Brady Tkachuk will not be on the Philadelphia Flyers anytime soon. The league was busy on Sunday as two trades happened.

A total of three 1st-round picks were dealt on Sunday. Two 2nd-rounders were moved as part of the trades. And lastly, two wingers moved teams. The Florida Panthers were busy.

The first trade was a big one, but nobody knew that it was just the beginning. Florida traded promising young winger Mackie Samosvkevich to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for No. 25 overall in the 2026 NHL Draft, as well as a conditional 2nd-round pick in the 2027 Draft.

The Kraken have acquired a young scoring winger, something they have been in pursuit of for a bit now. And it looked like the Panthers were loading up. What we did not know was that they were loading up for a move just a few hours later.

Panthers GM Bill Zito struck a deal with Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios, sending the Panthers No. 9 overall pick in 2026, as well as No. 25 that they just acquired from the Kraken, a 2027 2nd-rounder, and a conditional first in 2029 in exchange for Brady Tkachuk.

The Tkachuk brothers will be reunited in Florida, possibly the best Father’s Day gift they could have given their dad, Keith.

The free agent market is very thin this year. Trades will be common this year as teams try to improve this summer. Sunday’s trades will have a big impact on many teams’ summers. That includes the Flyers.

You might think, “How could two trades that did not include the Flyers possibly impact their summer?”

Well, let’s talk about it.

How Sunday’s Samoskevich, Tkachuk Trades Can Impact the Flyers Summer

Let’s start with the first one. For a while, it seemed like the Kraken would do anything for a young, top-6 winger. Samoskevich has a way to go before he is a surefire Top-6 winger, but the Kraken gave up a 1st and a 2nd for him, so they must see the potential.

So, that brings two things to the table: one, they could become more open to other types of trade packages, and maybe less winger-or-bust. The second, well, they did not trade either Shane Wright or Matty Beniers. They could still be on the table as the Kraken look to continue adding to their roster. Maybe a hockey trade.

Moving past Seattle and on to Ottawa, their direction seems to be to win now, despite the trade. Multiple reports have suggested that Staios could target Dallas Stars pending RFA Jason Robertson as a Tkachuk replacement. They now have 3 first-rounders this season, including a Top-10 pick; they could absolutely wheel and deal to get this thing back on course.

Bruce Garrioch reported that Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has been of interest to the Senators in the past. Now suddenly, the Senators, who are loaded in draft capital, also need to replace a top-6 power-forward winger, on top of adding a big, physical, RHD.

Now, if the Senators would rather look to a short retool, this would be the year to do so. They have plenty of draft capital now, including a high-end pick. They also still have players, I’m sure many teams would love to acquire. For the Flyers, Ottawa has multiple young centermen with top-6 potential, or even top-6 roles already.

Anthony Di Marco has reported that the Flyers are interested in multiple of those centers, including Shane Pinto, Dylan Cozens, and Ridley Grieg, but the Senators have been reluctant to move either. If they lean into a retool, maybe that could change.

All in all, the stove is getting hot. With the NHL Draft now less than a week away, I would not be shocked if more action followed. Do you think the Flyers will make another pre-Draft trade?
