After luring Dusty May away from national champion Michigan, the Dallas Mavericks kicked off their 2026 NBA draft selecting one of his former players.

With the No. 9 overall pick in the first round Tuesday night, Dallas selected forward Morez Johnson Jr.

The 20-year-old Johnson averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds as a sophomore with Michigan after spending his freshman season at Illinois.

Now in Dallas, alongside Mavs general manager Mike Schmitz, Johnson was introduced to the local media at a noon CT news conference on Thursday.
