NHL trade rumors continue to swirl around the New York Rangers, and it appears that the Seattle Kraken is likely a front runner for acquiring Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller this summer.
The Kraken have been mired through two poor seasons since making the playoffs for the first time in their history and are looking to improve their roster significantly over the coming weeks and months.
Kraken showing interest in defenseman K’Andre Miller
Miller Has been rumored for several weeks that he may be on the move from the Rangers as the team may not be willing to pay for a significant raise in salary as he is now a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
There’s also a strong possibility that an organization may offer sheet Miller to acquire him or formulate a trade between the Rangers and the Kraken that would help both organizations.
Adam Gertz of the Bleacher Report has given the idea of both teams interested in making a deal.
“They have some salary-cap flexibility; they have a need; and they have plenty of draft capital over the next few years. Miller could arrive in Seattle and immediately be one of its best all-around defensemen and bring some much-needed mobility and offensive upside.”, Gertz said.
The Seattle Kraken sat ninth worst when it came to goals against as they held a record of 3.2 goals against per game. Their record was 35-41-6 and was 23rd in power play percentage at 18.9 and was 21st in penalty kill.
Adding a player like Miller would certainly boost offensively and defensively and the Rangers could use more draft capital, and better players help get them back into playoff contention.
Busy offseason lies ahead for Rangers organization
The Rangers have begun their busy offseason with the change behind the bench as they had rehired Mike Sullivan now holding the ranks of head coach.
The team has several decisions to make when it comes to their roster including the contract of Chris Kreider, deciding on the fate of K’Andre Miller, potentially signing Artemi Panarin or trading him this offseason and looking at unrestricted free agents that may help the Rangers offensively including Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner.
Rangers general manager Chris Drury has a full plate but it’s likely around the draft is when the major decisions will begin Anna potential trade between the crack and the Rangers could bear fruit seeing Miller heading West.
