Don Sweeney said there was a lot of trade chatter on Friday, and on Saturday, the Boston Bruins made another move. 

During the sixth round of the NHL Draft, the Bruins acquired 23-year-old forward Ivan Ivan from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for 2021 first-round pick Fabian Lysell.

Ivan, an undrafted forward, played in 66 games with the Colorado Eagles (AHL) this season and recorded 26 points (11-15–26). He added 15 more (3-12–15) in 17 playoff games. He has played 169 career AHL games, all with the Eagles, and posted 25 goals and 69 points throughout his career.

The 6-foot-0 forward has played in 49 NHL games with the Avalanche, primarily in a bottom-six role, and he recorded a total of nine points (5-4–9). He played 40 of those games during the 2024-25 season, and that number fell to just nine during the 2025-26 campaign. 

A native of Ostrava, Czechia, Ivan has represented his home country at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships in Edmonton. He had an assist and finished with a minus-four rating as Czechia placed fourth.  

Ivan is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. He is due a qualifying offer ($850,000), which is due Monday. Sweeney confirmed Ivan will be issued a qualifying offer.

Fabian Lysell, who was selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2021 draft, spent last season with the Providence Bruins. He recorded 42 points (17-25–42) in 57 games before an injury limited him to just one playoff game. Over 219 career games in Providence, Lysell has 163 career points (57-106–163). 

He played in 12 NHL games with the Bruins, all coming during the 2024-25 season. 

“I spoke to Fabian today, and we want to wish Fabian well. Obviously, he’s been a very productive player at the American Hockey League level. He hasn’t fully grasped at the NHL level what it probably requires to play each and every night. He took ownership of that today. We took ownership that, you know, could we have done more and better in supporting him? Probably,” Sweeney said Saturday. “We’re providing a new opportunity for Fabian. It’s the right thing to do for him personally, and hopefully professionally.”

Like Ivan, Lysell is also due for a qualifying offer this summer. 

During Wednesday’s pre-draft media availability, Sweeney said that there were going to be RFAs who were not qualified. When specifically asked about Lysell, he respectfully declined to answer so as not to single anyone out. 

Three days later, Fabian Lysell’s time with the Bruins officially comes to a close.
