We have two new acquisitions to confirm for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
The news was confirmed directly by the Canadiens’ official page:
“The Canadiens have agreed to terms on one-year, two-way contracts with forward Samuel Poulin and defenseman Ethan Samson.”

Forward Samuel Poulin and defenseman Ethan Samson sign with Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens
Samuel Poulin, 25, is a 6-foot-2, 213-pound forward who was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round (21st overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. He recorded 29 points in 49 AHL games this season.
In his NHL career, he has totaled 2 points in 15 games.
Ethan Samson, 22, is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-shot defenseman who was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (174th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
He recorded 14 points in 30 AHL games this season.
These signings may not generate the same attention as Montreal’s biggest moves, but they reflect Kent Hughes’ continued focus on strengthening the organization’s pipeline.
Poulin and Samson add youth, depth, and competition at key positions while providing the Laval Rocket with two players capable of making an immediate impact. It will now be interesting to see how both fit into the Canadiens’ development plans heading into the 2026-27 season.
