Two hometown players from Quebec found new homes on Friday.
At the top of the list, Gatineau native Hendrix Lapierre has signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The 24-year-old center was just traded to the Pennsylvania club.
Just a few days later, he has already signed a new contract there.
It is a two-year agreement. Lapierre will earn a salary of $1.3 million per season.
It’s a nice pay raise for the Quebec native. Last season, he was earning the league minimum salary of $850,000, so we are extremely happy for him.
The restricted free agent will once again become a restricted free agent in 2028.
The former first-round pick became a reliable option on Washington’s fourth line.
His numbers remain modest, but respectable. He recorded 16 points in 74 games last season.
Raphaël Lavoie gets another opportunity with the Vegas Golden Knights
A second Quebec-born player also changed teams on Friday.
Forward Raphaël Lavoie has agreed to a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights.
The 25-year-old signed a one-year contract worth $900,000.
In the NHL, Lavoie is still trying to establish himself.
In 17 games, he has yet to record his first point.
However, in the American Hockey League, it is a completely different story. Lavoie was outstanding, posting 56 points in 45 games with Henderson.
We’ll see if these two Quebec-born players can take advantage of their new opportunities. Because sometimes, a change of scenery is exactly the spark needed to revive a career.
