DADE CITY, Fla. – Two people were taken to area hospitals Monday afternoon after separate lightning strike incidents.
The strikes both happened near Dade City. The two events happened about 25 minutes apart.
Pasco County Fire Rescue said the first incident happened on Palmilla Drive in Lake Jovita. First responders said that person was critically injured. Bystanders were performing CPR when emergency crews arrived.
The second was on Wilson Street.
Officials said that person was hit indirectly but was okay when first responders arrived.
Crews transported that person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Bay News 9’s Weather Experts, when it rains, don’t seek shelter under a tree. Find a building or a hard-topped vehicle and don’t wait until the last minute to seek shelter. Lightning can strike more than 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.
If you can hear thunder, you are in danger of being struck by lightning, even if it’s not raining where you are.
