Sky high, ridiculously so. Seattle Kraken center Shane Wright has requested a trade, but when the Vancouver Canucks called Seattle with interest in acquiring the former fourth overall pick, Seattle set a trade price so high that they chased away Vancouver. The Pittsburgh Penguins would be foolish to meet the ask, too. Elsewhere in the Daily, lingering questions about each NHL team, Ryan Shea talked to NHL.com about choosing Edmonton, and we examined the few, very few, options left for the left side of the Penguins’ defense.

Hopefully, this coming week brings a fresh batch of conversations and a little bit of news. I’ll confess, we hit it all so hard over the last 10 days that I don’t know what else to analyze or discuss this coming week. I don’t want to start with the Top 20 Penguins Prospects list just yet, but I suppose I probably will.

Let’s do that hockey…

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: So, what’s “left” on the free agent market? What options do the Penguins have internally to balance their blue line? It’s not a great answer, but one worth exploring nonetheless. What are the options for the Penguins’ defense?

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Trade! I won’t pretend to know much about the prospect or the nuts and bolts of the deal, but here is the Pittsburgh Pirates trade.

And the MLB Draft is today. Danny Demilio has the big board of prospects and some ideas on who the Pirates’ draft pick should be.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

NHLtraderumors.me: Vancouver reporter/show host Rick Dhaliwal reported the Seattle Kraken’s price for disgruntled center Shane Wright. Seattle GM Jason Botterill asked for one of Vancouver’s two top defensemen prospects, both of whom are highly regarded. After this ask, you can pretty much scratch Wright from the trade lists.

It’s like asking for Harrison Brunicke. Yeah, nope. But wait, Dhaliwal wasn’t done. For the Elias Pettersson trade brigade, that’s not really happening, either.

Lots of Elias Pettersson trade talk but
As of now, he has not been asked to waive his no-move clause to go anywhere.

Lots of chatter but don’t believe anything is close.

Sportsnet: The offseason isn’t quite over, and Sportsnet rolled through all 32 teams to examine those lingering questions for each team, including the Penguins.

NHL.com: Ryan Shea. It still doesn’t make much sense that Penguins GM Kyle Dubas spoke so highly of him but made no effort to sign him. When the stroke of noon hit, the Edmonton Oilers chased Shea, and he was all about it. Shea had some good quotes about playoff hockey and joining the Oilers.

I’m going to miss talking Xs and Os and getting some real insights from Shea.

Philly Hockey Now: From so close to a future star center to nothing. Sent back to the beginning to hunt for another center, with everyone knowing how desperate and how much they’re willing to pay. Will James has what’s next for those empty Philadelphia Flyers.

Detroit Hockey Now: It is July 11, and the Yzerplan is years behind schedule, moving at the speed of continental drift. So, what would have happened if the Detroit Red Wings hadn’t collapsed in the second half, and what would have happened if the Red Wings had made the playoffs?
