The Montreal Canadiens have tightened their rules at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard this summer, and it’s generating plenty of reaction.
Fans will no longer be allowed to film players during informal summer workouts after 10:20 a.m.
The players typically hit the ice around 10:00 or 10:05 a.m., leaving fans with only a very small window to record footage.
As Maxime Truman points out, the real reason behind the restriction remains unclear. Officially, no one has clearly explained the decision.
Unofficially, one explanation is making the rounds.
Several players are reportedly tired of being constantly filmed and watched by fans during the offseason.
These are the same fans who fill the Bell Centre night after night, paying top dollar for tickets.
Montreal Canadiens fans are no longer allowed to film players after 10:20 a.m.
As you can imagine, it’s sparked plenty of debate. Many fans simply can’t afford a seat at the Bell Centre.
Making the trip to the CN Sports Complex in Brossard becomes their only opportunity to get close to their favorite players.
And yet, we often hear the same refrain around the hockey world. Whenever something goes wrong, the media gets blamed-again and again.
The Canadiens have every right to set their own rules, and no one is disputing that.
But imposing this kind of restriction on fans in the middle of the summer sends a strange message to the people who are the heartbeat of the Bell Centre.
Maxime Truman’s article and arguments are excellent, but what do you think about all of this?
