One of the biggest names of the NHL offseason is off the board, but the yearly rumors surrounding the league’s best player are back. Out with one and in with the other, I suppose.
In Boston Bruins news, the prospect rankings continued yesterday. We covered Nos. 10-6, and now all that’s left is the top five. The Bruins also posted their theme night schedule for the 2026-27 season, and an update on a new Bruin.
Jason Robertson signed a one-year deal last night, avoiding his upcoming arbitration date and settling for the Stars’ ask. He was not the only player to sign a contract yesterday, as a Mass. native cashed in and will stick around in Utah until 2035.
Elsewhere around the league, Connor McDavid trade rumors? They’re back, and some teams in the Eastern Conference are getting ahead of themselves. The Blue Jackets seem to be heading to arbitration with one of their goaltenders, and the Rangers are keeping Jonathan Quick around in a development role.
Nathan MacKinnon’s cap hit is increasing slightly for the next five seasons, and the Tkachuk brothers are one of many sets to be reunited in the NHL.
Happy Wednesday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:
Boston Bruins
PROSPECTS: Prospects! The rankings are continuing, and yesterday featured Nos. 10-6. Some of them have moved on to the AHL and are either knocking on the door or one year removed from it, but the Bruins also have other prospects in Europe and college who have been showing promise.
Boston Bruins (via 𝕏): ICYMI, the Bruins shared their 2026-27 theme nights yesterday, including Hockey Fights Cancer night on October 22 (vs. NSH) and Patrice Bergeron’s jersey retirement on December 1 (vs. COL).

NHL News & National Hockey Now
Sportsnet: Take Jason Robertson off the market… for now. The Stars did not move from their reported max of $12 million, and Robertson settled on a one-year deal. He is eligible to sign an extension on January 1, 2027, and is set to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2027.
TSN: Jet Greaves and the Blue Jackets are set for arbitration on Thursday, and they are $4.7 million apart in their asking prices. The Blue Jackets went for $2.8 million, while their goaltender countered with a $7.5 million ask. Greaves went 26-19-9 with a 2.60 GAA and .908 SV% with Columbus last season.
ESPN: John Marino, a native of Easton and Harvard hockey alum, signed an eight-year extension with a $6.75 million cap hit. The contract kicks in next summer, and Marino will be 38 when the contract expires in 2035. The right-shot defenseman finished with a career-high 36 points (4-32–36) last season in Utah.
Detroit Hockey Now: Good news for Detroit as Marco Kasper is back on the ice. He was nursing a knee injury and missed the IIHF World Championships, but returned for a high-level training camp in Austria. He skated at the camp with new Bruin JJ Peterka, who has been spending his summer over in Europe.
Samuel Dubé (via 𝕏): Here are some photos from Swiss Pro Camp with Kasper and Peterka.
Swiss Pro Camp 2026 is officially in the books! 🇨🇭
It was an absolute pleasure to work with Marco Kasper and JJ Peterka again over the past seven days. Grateful for the opportunity to share the ice, keep building, and be part of a great week of high-level work.@dubeskills pic.twitter.com/IshtmvudDM

Edmonton Journal: We’re into that part of summer. Connor McDavid trade rumors. They seem to appear every year, but who wouldn’t want the best player in the league? His new two-year deal just kicked in, but that has not stopped speculation from other cities around the NHL.
Colorado Hockey Now: Speaking of silver medalists, Nathan MacKinnon’s cap hit is increasing a little bit. There is a quirk in the CBA that adds an extra $20,000 to MacKinnon’s contract, and Aarif Deen dives into why his cap hit is taking a small increase over the next five seasons.
Florida Hockey Now: The Tkachuks are reunited in sunny South Florida, making the Panthers the latest team to bring a pair of siblings together. There’s no set count of how many sets of brothers have played together over the years, but it sounds like it’s been at least 80. George Richards takes a look at some of the notable sibling duos and trios.
Forever Blueshirts: According to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, the NY Rangers are hiring Jonathan Quick as director of goaltending development and Derick Brassard as a player development assistant.
Devils Rink Report with James Nichols (video via YouTube): This is awesome. New Jersey Hockey Now’s James Nichols will be talking to new GM Sunny Mehta LIVE at 4:00 PM today.
