Unexpected Canadiens goalie decision could impact Samuel Montembeault’s future in Montreal

We have an update regarding the Canadiens’ goaltending situation.
And it’s not necessarily what we expected.
Because respected journalist Stu Cowan offered a notable update during The Sick Podcast.
“They’re not going to start with 3 goalies.
If Montembeault is not traded, I think he starts as the backup to Dobeš and they send Fowler down to Laval.”
According to Cowan, the Canadiens will not begin the season carrying three goaltenders on their roster.
Cowan put it this way: if Montembeault isn’t traded, he believes he’ll start the season as Dobes’ backup, while Jacob Fowler will be sent to Laval.
That would be a major development.
Samuel Montembeault’s future continues to loom over the trade market
It would be disappointing for some fans to see Jacob Fowler start the season with the Laval Rocket, but it appears Kent Hughes and the Canadiens’ management don’t intend to open the season with three goalies.
This will be an interesting situation to follow.
Management will have to make a decision after training camp.
Three goaltenders, two roster spots, and a decision that’s bound to leave someone unhappy. All eyes will be on Kent Hughes as he tries to sort it out.
